How do I get tested?
If you do decide to have a test, you will be asked to complete a "test request" form and provide a urine sample (for males and females) or a self-taken low vaginal swab (for females). The information you give will be treated in the strictest confidence.
You can either request a postal test kit (urine sample only) . You can also collect a kit from many locations across the city. To find details of venues in your area please click here and enter your postcode in the search box. In either case full instructions on how to take the test are provided in the packs.
Once you have completed the test it may take up to a maximum of two weeks to process your result. Unfortunately, a 'same-day' service is not currently available. Your sample is sent to our laboratories and when your result is known, you will be contacted using the method you have chosen either letter, e-mail text or phone.
Information about you and your results, but not your name and address, will be sent to the Health Protection agency for monitoring and evaluation of the screening programme at the national level.
You have the right to refuse to answer any of the questions on the "test request" form, but we encourage you to complete it to the best of your ability.
